Excellent except for one minor problem

Folks--
The Cavilock CL400B0329 is excellent except for one small finish detail. The upper edge of the snib has a burr on the upper edge upon which I press down to lock the door. Can I file the burr off and not compromise the integrity of the finish (e.g., color, corrosion resistance)?
