HDPOCKETDOORS® Unveils the Dutch Alternative Pocket Door System at the 2027 NAHB International Builders' Show®

An industry-first pocket door system combining a concealed child or pet gate and a full-size pocket door within the same wall cavity.

HDPOCKETDOORS® is proud to introduce the Dutch Alternative Pocket Door System, a groundbreaking new product debuting in the New Product Zone at the 2027 NAHB International Builders' Show® (IBS).

Designed for today's homes where flexibility, safety, and clean architectural lines are equally important, the Dutch Alternative Pocket Door System integrates two independently operating sliding panels within a single 7-inch wall cavity. The innovative design allows homeowners to choose between a concealed child or pet gate for everyday use or a full-height pocket door for complete privacy. Both panels feature premium soft-close and soft-open operation for smooth, quiet performance.

Unlike traditional Dutch doors, which permanently divide the upper and lower sections of a swinging door, the Dutch Alternative keeps both the gate and the door completely hidden inside the wall when not in use, preserving a clean, uninterrupted opening.

"The Dutch Alternative was created to solve a common problem," said Mike Christner, President of HDPOCKETDOORS®. "Many homeowners want the convenience of a child or pet gate without sacrificing the clean appearance of a pocket door. Instead of choosing one or the other, we engineered a system that gives you both, completely hidden within the wall until you need them."
