Father's Day Tribute

This month I wanted to share how my dad has impacted me in honor of Father's Day. I have built such a strong relationship with my dad since I grew up working with him. I'm so lucky that I've gotten to see him make a living out of something he is so passionate about, and it's been really meaningful to share that with him. He has definitely given me a lot of business advice over the years, but his wisdom has also helped me in all areas of my life. I'm excited to share what I've learned from working with my dad and some of my favorite memories with him that made me who I am today.

The best life advice my dad has given me would be to follow through with what you say you're going to do so that you can demonstrate integrity. He has shown me what it’s like to have a relationship with God and how your life can change when you serve him with all your heart. I always strive to work hard and do my best so I can provide for my family and make time to spend with them outside of work just like my dad did for me.

I was first introduced to the construction business by my dad. Over the years, he’s taught me to always put quality before speed. Once you're producing the quality that you're striving for, you’re able to put out the kind of product that makes the time put into it worth it. You'll be able to speed up the production by implementing steps and processes without cutting the quality. Our business motto, "Do it right the first time", illustrates my dad's vision for our company perfectly and the determination he has always had to create a superior product.

I grew up going to work with my dad during the summers and time off school. Even when I was too young to work, I would just ride my bike and play out on the job site. I just enjoyed being outside and doing what I could to help my dad. It’s been an amazing experience to watch this business grow from such a young age and to start from the bottom and work my way up the ladder. I learned the importance of work ethic from working alongside my dad. I took every opportunity to do different tasks which helped me learn how to work with my hands and take pride in that work. I always knew that I wanted to somehow have my own business, and seeing how my dad worked directly with the men on his crew and how they respected and looked up to him helped me to realize that I wanted a similar relationship with my employees.

Working with my dad was definitely a huge highlight for me, but my dad always made time for other fun activities and sports. So many great memories were made when I went hunting and fishing with my dad. I always looked forward to our fishing trips in Mexico. It might not have been the safest trip, but it was so worth it. The fishing was unlike anything I’d ever experienced, and I'll cherish the memories of being in another culture and spending quality time with my dad forever.

Some of the qualities that I admire most about my dad are how hard he works, and more importantly, how he puts God and family first. He starts his day with prayer and devotions, and after working hard all day, he always comes in and has dinner with his family. Working alongside him has allowed me to see how generous he is with his tools. He is always willing to share with someone else without expecting anything in return. Above all, my dad is always there when anybody needs him.

I’ve always looked up to my dad for being such a great businessman. He has always been very organized with a place for everything. I’m really grateful for all the opportunities that I've had to work alongside him. I've really enjoyed seeing everything that has come out of the hard work he’s put into this business. He’s shown me that when times are tough, you can always work your way through it as long as you know how to work hard. Even if it doesn't always pay well, you can still take satisfaction in the work that you do with your own hands and the product that you deliver, trusting that compensation would come.

This Father's Day I took the time to truly thank my dad for everything he has done for me and taught me, and I hope you did the same. I’m glad I could work with my dad for all these years and have the privilege to learn and store up the knowledge he has passed down to me. It has been such a blessing to work side by side with the original pocket door guy and know that I can carry on his legacy.
